Pieces
Two things you can do:
leave the broken pieces on the ground
or
try to pick them up and put them back together
first one is harder to do in the short term - but perhaps the best in the long run...
Broken pieces, no matter how well cemented, just leave some kind of mark. Therefore, after reflecting on my experiences, I think you are absolutely right, it's no point picking them.

and no matter how well cemented, you can still see the lines where it broke...
